custom geforce gtx 780 ti cards compared - asus & gigabyte

by:A-TECH      2020-01-10
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti was announced in Montreal, Canada, in early November.
Added a \"TI\" name to NVIDIA\'s top consumer graphics card, which most of us think will not be much more powerful than the existing GeForce GTX 780
Until we reviewed it.
Our actual survey results show that it has excellent performance and can be completely sealed as the best single GPU graphics card you can get.
Part of the reason it\'s so good is that its GK110 chip is fully unlocked, with 2,880 CUDA cores and a new Power Balance feature that makes better use of its three power rails as a result, the card is capable of reaching new levels of power efficiency for top graphics cards and unmatched overclocking performance.
With so much for NVIDIA\'s reference design, you can add-in-
The level of board partners has been further improved?
We tested two such cards from ASUSand Gigabyte with a custom cooling solution.
The Asus card uses CoolTech cooling technology and is equipped with DirectCU IIcustom cooling system.
This cooling fan technology uses the CoolTech fan (
This makes the angle of airflow dispersion wider)
, And a normal 80mm heat dissipation from the fin
Stack of DirectCU II cooler.
There are 5 copper heat pipes in direct contact with the Asus card\'s GPU-
Four of them are mixtures with a diameter of 6mm and 8mm, while the last mixture with a diameter of 10mm is thicker than usual.
The card is also bundled with two sets of metal decals for you to customize the color scheme of the fan cover to a certain extent.
Where to place stickers for each decal package there is an easy to follow Picture Guide.
Or, if you like the \"Dark Knights\" looking for your cards, you can skip them.
Card Sports moderate overclocking GK110 core (
For GeForce GTX 780 Ti)
The rated power is 954 MHz and the boost clock is 1020 MHz.
The rated clock speed of its 3gb GDDR5 memory is 7000 MHz.
In addition to having the DirectCUII active cooling function, the card also has a connected metal back plate for passive cooling.
In addition to this metal backplane, the card has a VRMheatsink that cools the card mosfet.
They are part of asus\'s proprietary Digi VRM digital power supply design, which also includes super alloy capacitors and choke loops.
Another point to note about the card is the power connector, which has a pair of 8-pin Molex ones.
In contrast, the reference GTX780 Ti has 6-pin, and a 8-
Pin Molex connector.
Perhaps the additional power provided will help the card achieve a higher level of performance?
We will soon find out if this is the case in the performance test section.
The card has 8 2 power phase designs and the GPU core is powered in 8 phases, 1-
Each stage of the graphics storage module and phase-locked loop (PLL)
Card Board respectively.
It has two pairs of video ports.
Connect the DVI port, one HDMI port, and one Display Port output.
The option is the same as the reference GTX780 Ti card.
We received a message from the local ASUSoffice, the price of this card is $1,119 and has been on sale in the store since December 20, 2013.
First impression, we found it too expensive!
Gigabyte\'s GTX 780 Ti card comes with a familiar Windforce 3x fan shield.
Compared to the heavy metal case of ASUScard, Windforce 3X looks rather inclined.
This card shows the new Windforce 3x450 W cooling system, which is first released this year in Computex and is often used in the top SKUs of its graphics series.
As the name implies, it is characterized by the usual cooling fan triple reconnection, plus the \"triangular cooling\" technology, which is a special fin-like structure adopted inside the radiator that can reduce air turbulence, improve the efficiency of the cooler.
For the best cooling effect, the cooling system is also equipped with the same copper heat pipe and RAMheatsink;
As Gigabyte quoted, \"The entire system guarantees more than 450 W of heat dissipation.
\"This cooling will definitely come in handy as the card comes with an ultra-locked GK110 core with a rated frequency of 1020 MHz.
This is 19% more than the default 854MHz operating frequency of the reference GTX 780 Ti.
Accordingly, the boost speed of the gb card is 1085 MHz.
Although its graphics core is heavily overclocking, its memory module still runs at the default 7000MHz clock speed.
The card draws power from two Molex connectors; one 6-
Pin and another 8-pin.
Like the Asus card, this gigabyte card also uses 8-2 phase VRMdesign;
The overclocking GPUcore has 8 phases, each corresponding to one phase.
The back of the card presents an exposed PCB with no metal plate different from the ASUScounterpart.
The video connection option is the same as the reference card;
There are two DVI ports, one HDMI port and one Display Port output.
Here are the specs for our graphic test bed: Here is a list of cards that we are going to test.
For the reference GTX780 card, we must punch the Asus GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II 3GB GDDR5 to the default operating value of the expected reference card.
For AMD Radeon HD7970, the Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB gddr5.
We also included.
End the AMD r9290x \"Hawaii\" card to measure its performance ranking.
Note 1: in the temperature and power consumption comparison, the results used come from the data collected by the actual reference card.
Please refer to our comments on NVIDIA GeForce GTX780 Ti and AMD Radeon R9 cards.
Note 2: In our overclocking test we overclocking Asus GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II 3GB GDDR5 to simulate overclocking reference GTX 780
With detailed testing of the respective GPUs previously established, here is a list of benchmarks we will use to evaluate two custom cards :-
3d mark 2011 was used for our temperature and power consumption tests.
At the same time, let\'s take a look at add-
Accumulate in competition with competitors.
Here is a comparison between NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti custom cards and other cards: for 3d mark (2013)
During the test, we tested it through two tests: fire strike and extreme fire strike.
Both methods include extremely horizontal mosaic and volumetric lighting, as well as complex smoke simulations using computational shaders and dynamic particle lighting;
While the latter will further drive the card\'s graphics processing capabilities with more Mosaic, more particle effects and more heavy direct computing calculations.
The higher super-locked Gigabyte card is the obvious winner, and for the composite benchmark of 3d mark, its performance is about 4% worse than the slower ASUScard (2013).
On average, they performed about 8% more than the reference GTX780 Ti card.
For GTX Titan, the leading edge of custom cards has increased to around 13%.
Compared to their trusted AMDcompetitor, in the form of a Radeon r9290x card, the custom GTX 780 Ti card is about 9% ahead.
As a measure, they are in-
Game performance, we put the cards in through the pace of Crysis 3.
The game runs on CryEngine 3, every-pixel per-
Object motion blur, background depth of field, displacement mapping on small terrain, particle and volume lighting and fog shadows, dynamic cloth and vegetation, caustics and diffuse shadows.
Record the average frame rate generated in a fixed render cutscene to measure the performance of each card.
For these two cards, they are in 3d mark (2013)
In Crysis 3, it is usually widened across the board.
Gigabyte cards compete with each other, about 2-
4% better than its ASUScounterpart.
Compared to other old NVIDIA cards, their profits have increased slightly, from about 9% of the reference GTX780 Ti to about 19% of the Titan.
The custom 780 Ti pair is about 24% better than the GTX780 card.
AMD Radeon r9290x and custom NVIDIA matchmaking are 32% higher on average than it is.
For our overclocking practice, although we managed to achieve a higher working frequency for gigabit cards, overclocking ASUScard was slightly ahead.
Again, the new GTX780 Ti card supports GPUBoost 2.
0 and the current power balance function unique to GTX780 Ti.
Therefore, we believe that since both technologies try to maximize the performance level of each card, the performance level of the overclocking GTX780 Ti card is a bit similar.
As can be seen from the following figure, all three GeForce GTX 780 Ti cards (
Reference card included)
Manage very similar overclocking performance.
Having said that, for those interested, we calculated the overclocking percentage gain performance for each card just for fun :-
The reference GTX780 Ti card achieves a maximum gain of about 20.
6% compared with the normal operating state, the ASUSGTX780 Ti card is managed by 13.
The increment of 6%, gigabyte card with its 8. 3% gain.
Obviously, the difference in these numbers is only because the basic performance of each card is different, but it also tells you if it is worth overclocking.
In this case, it makes sense to push it further if you have a reference to the clock GeForce GTX 780 Ti.
On the other hand, for faster custom cooling cards, overclocking requirements have a diminishing return as their performance levels are roughly the same as the reference cardsdesigned card.
By default, the default temperature threshold for all new GeForce GTX 700 series cards is 80 degrees Celsius to maximize the temperature.
This is because of GPU Boost 2.
If there is an available heat and power budget that needs to be considered, the 0-factor temperature can increase the working clock of the card (
You can refer to our previous article.
How it works.
Having said that, the coolers on Asus and gigabyte cards seem to be highly efficient, and even if the working clock speed increases, the working temperatures of these cards are only hovering around 60 degrees Celsiusat load levels!
Between Asus and gigabit cards, the latter\'s cooling system is more efficient because it has a higher working clock speed to tame, but its registration temperature is not higher than the Asus card.
The power consumption figures of these two cards are quite interesting, because it can be said that gigabyte is very energy-efficient, or Asus has a higher power consumption than expected.
Both cards have an impressive performance and, thanks to its higher ultra-locked graphics core, gigabyte cards are in the lead in most cases.
In addition to this, the power consumption of the Gigabyte GTX780 Ti Windforce 3X OC card is lower than that of the ASUScard and the cooler is more efficient.
So it has a very compelling package.
The Asus product is still good but not better than Gigabyte.
Asus card is definitely no problem, we will recommend it wholeheartedly if you like heavy
Watch your graphics card on duty.
The only aspect of what we find confusing is its higher power attraction, and we can\'t help but wonder if it\'s with a pair of 8-
Pin power connector.
Given the new power balance technology of GTX 780 Ti, Asus believes that more power consumption may benefit better overclocking.
In fact, as we have found, it has little effect on actual overclocking performance.
If you\'re going to ignore its official cooler and start refitting your own high-performance water-cooled block, maybe the extra power might come in handy trying to push the card closer to the limit, but it\'s a big effort for something that has already done quite well.
Overall, it is clear that, despite the strong performance of ASUScard, the gigabyte GeForce GTX780 Ti Windforce 3x OC card is a better candidate.
The suggested retail price for ASUSGeForce GTX 780 Ti DirectCU ii oc 3 gb gddr 5 is $1,119, but we found that the retail price is $1,089.
The price of gigabyte\'s credit card is about the same, about $1,069.
Obviously, the gigabyte card successfully surpassed the ASUScounterpart with a slightly better value.
However, in these four
Digital price points, the difference is negligible, you \'d better consider which card structure is more suitable for the design elements of your rig.
