1s lipo parallel charge board for multiple connector types

by:A-TECH      2020-03-06
In this note I will build a small PCB board to charge the small 3 in parallel.
7v 1S LiPo batteries, which are common in RC toys such as Square planes.
These batteries are usually low in capacity and do not have more than one battery. Bigger, multi-
The battery is outside the scope of this manual as it is necessary to make another board of the balance lead.
I need to charge some 1s batteries and don\'t want to wait for pre-charge
Prefabricated charging leads or boards that arrive at the post.
I did a lot of Arduino stuff so found out I could create my board using the modified PCB head.
The advantage of this design is that it can work with multiple types of connectors.
I used it for mini-JST and micro-Losi (
Also called Hua)connectors.
I will also use Microtest.
Once these batteries arrive, JST.
If you use a battery with similar capacity but different polarity (
The \"suitable for nine Eagles\" version of the normal turniy accucell battery and the opposite polarity)
You can charge together as long as you meet all, wires. ---Safety Warning---
Parallel charging boards are usually used by experienced people with hobby-grade battery chargers.
You should make sure you know what you are doing with LiPo batteries before collecting materials.
In particular, how to deal with, store and charge.
There are many good resources on the Internet.
If you are making this parallel charging board, you can easily short the battery (bad! )
Or connect them with reverse polarity (also bad)
If you are not careful when building, or are not sure about the safe use of the board.
To create this board, you need :-PCB headers -a file-
Soldering iron welding-pliers-
Some wires or proper connectors (e. g. banana or EC3)
Your charger-
Some strip
Some ways to test continuity if you have :-a vice-a multimeter -
Some wood to pad the chin.
Red marker pen-
I found the PCB head when I went looking for something to make a parallel charging board.
These connectors are ideal because they are male, and LiPo battery connectors are mostly female, as is customary.
The spacing is also perfect for the Minijst and micro-Losi connector.
However, the thickness is not perfect.
The head pin is too thick to install the connector.
I fix this by filing them so they are thinner.
I took about the third one. 33%)
The material is gone.
You may get an error, so make a note of more header pins than you plan to use.
Remove the pin from the joint using pliers.
After removal, archive them so that the parts that are highlighted from the title and connected to the battery are about 1/3 (33%)thinner.
I fixed the pin with a pair and some wood.
My file is on a multi-tool.
I have some problems with the pin gradually becoming pointed (
Thinner top, wide bottom).
I adjusted my technique and filed it with more pressure on the bottom and they came out straight away.
I submitted 10 pins (
I need 8 chargers as I have to charge 3 batteries in parallel).
Put these pins on the appropriate connector for testing-
If this connector is connected to the battery, please be careful to test only one at a time and avoid short circuit of the battery (bad! )
Put the right one aside for use in the next step.
Abandon others.
Now that you \'ve selected the connectors that fit the connectors, it\'s time to weld them to the strip board.
First weld the wire of the charger plug to the strip board.
You want to arrange a strip so you have a negative strip and a positive strip (see pictures).
I welded my head with very wide spacing, but no need.
Make sure you put them in space so you can plug in all the connectors.
For LiPo batteries, it is very important that there is no short circuit.
We will test the shorts later, but be careful when welding, don\'t bridge between the front and the negative tracks.
To double make sure the wires and joints are welded correctly, grab something to test your circuit (
I use a multimeter).
Avoid battery failure (bad! )
, And to ensure the correct function, you must ensure that: at this stage, consider insulating the exposed solder on the back of the board
You can use tape.
Or similar conductive hot glue. Everything is fine.
Let\'s connect.
The motherboard has now been made and tested to connect the battery (or batteries)
You want to charge and connect the motherboard to the charger.
These head pins can be connected in any direction, unlike the male mini-JST or micro-
Only the Losi connector with the correct connection method, so. . .
There is a risk here that you may accidentally connect the battery by mistake (bad! ).
Make sure all the red wires are on one side (
Red lead into one side of the charger red or front port)
All the black lines are on the other side (
Black leads into one side of the black or negative port on the charger).
Most hobby level chargers will tell you that if a separate battery is wrong, but when using multiple batteries, it may not be able to tell if one of the six batteries is wrong, so be careful.
Check all lines again (
Red to red, black to black).
Help me not to short the battery (bad! )
I later painted the red side of the Board red with a permanent mark, and the black side black.
Dial in the settings of the charger and leave. Happy charging!
